No — most people find wax removal completely comfortable. You might feel some light pressure or a tickling sensation, but the process shouldn’t cause pain. If you feel any discomfort, just let your audiologist know and they’ll adjust immediately.
If you currently have an ear infection, a perforation, or recent ear surgery, please let us know before booking. Our team will advise whether it’s safe to proceed or if you should see your GP first.
This varies between individuals. Some people naturally produce more ear wax than others. We recommend a routine check every 6–12 months, or sooner if you start to notice symptoms.
It’s best to avoid inserting cotton buds or other objects into your ears — these can push wax deeper or cause injury. If you’d like to try softening the wax, olive oil or Earol may help, but professional removal is always safest and most effective.
